Tufahija is a Bosnian national delicacy originating from Persia, and it came to this region with the Ottomans. Tufahija is a sweet dish made of cooked apples of firmer consistency filled with fine cream made of ground walnuts or almonds, fresh cream and sugar. Tufahija is often decorated with whipped cream and cherry. Tufahija should be served cold.
They are refreshing, light and tasty and are still made in homes throughout the country. The restaurants offering traditional Bosnian food will also serve tufahija.
